In celebration of Christmas and bringing in the new year, Saved by Neighbor visited the Upper East Region. Thanks to our long standing relationship with the Chief we were able to make it a surprise. We arrived with special treats, books, songs and dance prepared. All it took was a simple message from the Chief, “let the children come”.

Word spreads quickly in this village. In less than thirty minutes one hundred forty-five children gathered around. Our purpose this evening – to love these children. Every song, every dance, and every conversation was done in love and respect and with one goal in mind- to be the salt of earth. Wherever we go we pray we are the sprinkling of flavor that brings God’s light to the world. The belief of the Damalgo people is to worship through the pouring of libations in the ground to pay homage to the gods of the land. Through time, patience and love SBN wants to show them Jesus’s love and salvation.
Today, that looked like the fresh rice and boiled eggs we brought for the children and the sweet bubbly soda they all enjoyed. It was the sound of shuffling feet in special dance and the voices lifted in song and laughter that filled the air. Though we were unable to share the stories of the Bible with the children we were able to leave 35 Bibles in the village so they could read God’s truth. God is good and is already working here. The Chief even encouraged the people by handing out the Bibles to the children and instructing them to bring them back so every child could have an opportunity to read.

We have been visiting and praying for the Upper East Region for over three (3) years. We ask that you pray with us: that as the children look at the books they don’t just see the bright and colorful pictures, but that they would begin to know God’s truth and love through the words they read.
