SAVEDBYNEIGHBORFOUNDATIONGHANA EVENT SUMMARY

SBN Foundation Ghana on the 15TH of August, 2021, carried out the initiative of vacation/ after-school classes for its beneficiaries. Vacation and after-school classes are when children are given extra teaching and cross-examination when they are on holidays or whenever they close from school.

They receive extra knowledge from facilitators of the program. This program registered about 147 out of 218 children. The standard classes registered 50 children, 25 boys, and 25 girls, out of this number, 12 were disabled (paralyzed, sight, hearing, deaf and dumb, cerebral palsy), who needs enrollment to special education.

These selected 50 children were each given exercise books, bags dresses, mathematical sets, pens, pencils, erasers, sharpeners, pads (girls), biscuits, powdered soap, tissues, footballs, sandals, mosquito repellents against malaria disease, and etc The remaining 97 children were given a pen, a pencil, two erasers, two sharpeners, biscuits, toffees, and mosquito repellent.

SBN foundation was able to sensitize community leaders, men, women, and children about the importance of education. We sought their support to help brighten the future of the young ones by giving them early educational programs, activities, and general assessments. They were more informed about the importance of girl-child education and the roles of parents in supporting their children’s upbringing be it a girl or boy.

Parents were advised not to always abandon their children who are born with defects or disabilities to the care of the orphan home only but make other means to accept them with love and care for them. They were further encouraged not to always leave such children only to the orphan homes but follow up to make a lasting relationship, empowerment, and love and affection with the children. The children were further cautioned to take care of their gifts which came from the benevolence of kind and good people who may know or know them not.

They were asked to take the classes seriously and gain more knowledge, skills, and wisdom in order for them to discover more of their potentials and have the ability to make them useful in society. The attendees also did suggest issues that are bothering them such as lack of quality and accessible drinking water, lack of quality basic education, lack of ICT study center for the youth, and no interventions to empowering women to take entrepreneurial opportunities, among several others were mentioned.

Attendees expressed gratitude for the continued love and affection from SBN and laid their hope on the foundation’s programs and policies and also our main goal of establishing a school in the near future for the youth and women for them to acquire knowledge, skills, and entrepreneurial opportunities in Cloth/Fugu/Kente Weaving, that brings income generation.

We came to a consensus with the hope and prayers that SBN Foundation Ghana will put in efforts for the implementation of issues discussed whereas channeling these challenges to external parties especially our generous friends and families for kind intervention and support. The event came to an end with lots of singing and dancing, praising God and all involved for bringing smiles.
